A bus service for stranded Sumner commuters will start on Monday, but passengers will still have to do some walking.
The shuttle service will run to the Ferrymead bridge, and passengers will have to walk across the bridge to connect with buses to the city.
Weight restrictions on the bridge prevent heavy vehicles from crossing it.
"While not ideal, this is the best available option at the moment," a Christchurch Earthquake Response spokesman said.
The shuttle, which will start and end at the first stop on the Sumner side of the bridge, near Scott Park, will run every 30 minutes during the day.
From Monday to Saturday, the shuttle will depart Sumner at 10 minutes past and 40 minutes past each hour, with the first bus leaving at 6.10am and the last bus departing at 10.10pm.
The return trips will depart from the Scott Park bus stop at 25 minutes and 55 minutes past each hour, with the first bus at 6.25am and the last one leaving at 9.55pm.
Sunday times will be announced next week.
School buses will also be offered Monday to Friday, leaving Sumner at 7am and 11am and leaving from outside Scott Park at 4.40pm and 7pm.
