Bridal Path still dangerous

Some residents may try to move back to houses on a closed section of road in east Christchurch because a home-made sign made it appear safe to return to the earthquake-damaged area, Civil Defence says.
Bridle Path Road remained closed between Cooks Lane and Ferrymead Park Drive because of the danger of rocks falling from the hillside above.
However, an unofficial cardboard sign placed on barriers suggested the area was now safe.
Police were checking homes in the area and evacuating those who had moved back in, Acting Senior Sergeant John Pine said. People who did not comply would be prosecuted.
When areas above the road were assessed as being safe, police would remove the road blocks.
