Flight Centre New Zealand says there will be no redundancies in Christchurch as a result of the earthquake.

With 17 stores and about 70 staff in the region, only six of the original Flight Centre stores are back in business so far.

Flight Centre executive general manager Mike Friend said the firm was working to relocate people across Canterbury, throughout New Zealand and even to Australia for those who wished to go.

''We are adamant that no jobs will be lost as a result of the earthquake and I am guaranteeing this.''

The company opened a new Ferrymead store yesterday.

Flight Centre has also distributed almost $100,000 to its staff in Christchurch for personal recovery costs.

''We were fortunate that no one was injured in our stores, however we know the effects are ongoing for our staff.

''We're hugely proud of our people - both professionally and personally,'' Friend said.
