Another 5000 chemical toilets arrived in Christchurch last night, boosting the 5000 already distributed in quake-stricken suburbs.

The new chemical toilets will be distributed over the weekend to homes in Avondale, Westhaven and Bromley.

More than 30,000 chemical toilets have been ordered for Christchurch residents, with another 7500 due to arrive in the next few days and a further 5000 due next week.

Those whose sewerage systems appear to have been repaired are urged to check whether any issues arise within their immediate neighbourhood after flushing their toilet.

Breaks in the system could cause sewage to leak into the ground or flow in to the streets, even if toilets are able to flush.

Those who no longer need a chemical toilet are asked to call 03 941 8999.
