A Christchurch rebuilding fund has been launched by a city councillor.
Fendalton-Waimairi councillor Jamie Gough said the Christchurch City Council Rebuilding Christchurch Fund was set up to help minimise the financial burden on ratepayers "who have already suffered enormously".
Gough, who has set up the fund, said every cent raised would enable the city to "rise, recover and rebuild".
"Given our catastrophic and significantly more devastating earthquake on February 22, the last thing the city and its council want to do is rate or locally tax its residents more for the sheer privilege of living through such a horrific ordeal in a bid to be able to recover and rebuild."
Three out of four sanctioned signatures were needed before money could be released, Gough said. The signatories were Gough, Mayor Bob Parker, council chief executive Tony Marryatt and the head of the council's legal department.
Gough said the money would be used to rebuild and repair infrastructure and landmarks such as the Christ Church Cathedral and Canterbury Provincial Chambers.
Funds can be donated at the ASB. The account number is 12-3441-0025506
