More than 600 students attended graduation celebrations in a marquee at University of Canterbury yesterday.

The official ceremonies, which were to have been held at the Christchurch Town Hall, were cancelled after the earthquake in February.

All 2010 graduates were granted their degrees in absentia this week, but three celebrations were held to mark the event - one in Auckland on Tuesday and two in Christchurch yesterday.

While it was not an official celebration, each graduate was able to dress in the traditional regalia and have their name and degree read out before walking on to a stage.
