Another 87 quake-hit Christchurch buildings have been earmarked for demolition, with Civil Defence warning hundreds more will follow.
Civil Defence national controller John Hamilton said this afternoon that 87 buildings will be demolished on top of the 128 previously announced, including 20 heritage-list buildings.
Another 28 would be partially demolished and five would have deconstruction work performed to make them safe.
Buildings named included New World supermarket in St Martins and Redcliffs and the Lyttelton Hotel.
Most of the buildings named were outside the central city red zone and Hamilton said the total number of demolitions was expected to increase by hundreds in the coming weeks.
