A fashion show promoting Christchurch as the "high-visibility capital of the world" has had a high-profile visitor.

Yesterday, Prime Minister John Key viewed an art show at the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology's Madras St campus.

A high-vis bikini, bow-tie, wedding dress and wedding cake were showcased in the Reworking the High-vis Vest display.

Key was given a grey, yellow and orange tie by the polytechnic's School of Art and Design, which he put on as the students applauded.

The design students, who were celebrating their city-based campus reopening this week, created the display at the suggestion of course leader Henry Sunderland.

Sunderland said he thought Christchurch was now the high-vis capital of the world after the February earthquake.

Key said he was thrilled to see the students back on the campus.

"It is a milestone.

"The city is starting to recover from the earthquake and young people add vibrancy, enthusiasm and energy to the city," he said.
