New Zealand army personnel are working to secure badly damaged shops in Christchurch's central business district.
Today, media were given access to the quake-stricken city centre to see the devastation in High St and Cashel Mall first hand.
On both streets, engineers were working to patch up shopfronts, which have been exposed to potential looting and the weather.
There are 24 central business district zones that need to be secured.
So far, 13 have been completed, with workers securing two city blocks a day.
The work is expected to take another two to three weeks, an army spokesman said.
Tomorrow The Press website will feature an image gallery and a video revealing what these areas look like six weeks after the February 22 earthquake.
